Per the announcement from the Governor’s Office, Virginia will continue providing SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) benefits as usual by drawing from an emergency discretionary fund. The Governor has pledged to maintain these funds through the duration of the federal shutdown.
As a reminder, SNAP and WIC benefits do not cover hot prepared foods (such as rotisserie chicken) or non-food items including over-the-counter medicine, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, or diapers.
