Nourishing Our Community All Year Long
At HRTS - Hunger Response Team of Sterling, we work year-round to provide food assistance to families, children, and individuals facing food insecurity. Each month, we highlight a specific high-need food item that our community can donate to help fill the gap.
By contributing to our monthly food drive, you’re helping to ensure that our neighbors have access to nutritious, allergy-friendly, and essential pantry staples.
March Food Drive
Help Provide 1 lb. bags of Rice for Students in Need
Our school partners have shared that many of our Backpack Buddies students don’t come from families where mac and cheese is a typical meal. Instead, we’ve been rotating in 1 lb. bags of rice every other week—pairing it with a can of beans and a protein (fish, poultry, or meat) to create a balanced, complete meal.
Rice is a staple that meets student needs, and two cans of beans + a bag of rice allows us to provide a solid option for our vegetarian and dairy-free students, too!

ABOUT HRTS BACKPACK BUDDIES
Through our Backpack Buddies program, HRTS provides critical food support to local school children facing food insecurity. Each week, participating students receive a bag filled with six nutritious meals, ensuring they have enough to eat over the weekend when school meals are unavailable.
